History

Metope (მეთოფე) means a man with a topi, a musket. Firearms spread through Georgia from the 16th century, and by the 18th century the musket was a common weapon in Georgian armies.

Erekle II's Morige army of 1774 asked every man to serve one month a year with his own weapons and food, and many of them came with muskets.
