Inner Kakheti

Telavi was the capital of Kakheti. Erekle II was born there in 1720, and his palace, the Batonis Tsikhe, still stands in the town.

The story

Telavi, Kakheti, 18th century.

Raiders cross the Alazani at the fords and come down from the mountain passes.

Hold the royal seat until the raids stop.

King Erekle II spent much of his reign defending Kakheti from the raids, and in 1774 created the Morige army: every man served one month a year.
